My dear friends in Christ,

As we look back on the challenges of the past year, we are blessed to also see many signs of the goodness of the Lord evident in the people of our parishes and communities.

Our brave first responders, nurses, doctors, and the men and women who ensure public safety, often members of our own families or our friends, have continued their mission of life-saving service, putting the critical needs of others ahead of their own. In our Archdiocese, priests have provided the sacraments to those seriously ill or approaching the end of life and, with parish personnel, ministered to people during their times of sadness and suffering. Our dedicated parish staffs work tirelessly to keep parishioners connected, and our schools and religious education programs nurture the faith of our youth, both in-person and remotely. Your generous support for the annual Catholic Appeal makes it possible for these good works and many others to continue.

The public health crisis has brought us a greater awareness that we need to take care of each other and of the importance of working together. We continue to go forward with hope, knowing that God is always with us. We also recognize that there is much work ahead of us. The pandemic has not diminished our commitment to the ministries that sustain and strengthen our faith, respond to our brothers and sisters in need, and help us all to know that our loving God is with us. With recognition of the importance of these spiritual and pastoral services, I humbly ask for your continued support of the 2021 Catholic Appeal.

Please know of my gratitude for your consideration of this request. It is through your generosity that our Church can continue to bring Christ’s love to our world in greatly needed and very meaningful ways.

Asking God’s blessings upon you and all whom you hold dear, I remain,
Devotedly yours in Christ,

Cardinal Seán O'Malley, O.F.M., Cap.

Archbishop of Boston
